To start of, I am a huge and I mean huge fan of eggs for breakfast. It does not matter weather its whole eggs or egg whites I will gable it up in a nanosecond. However, after eating eggs for breakfast for years, and I do mean years I decided to widen the horizon and venture out. Well, the trouble is that breakfast cereal I consider empty promises, I am never full unless I eat 3 or 4 bowls. Plus, I tried oatmeal but I cannot stand soggy cereal in the first place so oatmeal was out of question. Especially because I used to have to eat all the time for breakfast due to a stomach trouble and that was the only thing that I could hold down. Eventually, I just started eating clean and there was no need for stomach medication. But, I stumbled across steel cut oats from Trader Joe. I love that store so a lot of my ingredients will be from them. I loved it. Is is grainy, it is not soggy, it is delicious, and it is fiberfill. So here is it: creamy, savory, flavorful, fiberfill, and just out of this world Oatmeal for breakfast.
- 1/2 cup Irish Steel Cut Oats
- 1 cup Vanilla Soy Milk or Milk of your choice
- 2 tbsp Natural Vanilla Flavor
- 1 tbsp Flax seeds
- 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
- 1/2 cup Blueberries
- 1/2 cup Raspberries
- 1/4 Cashes or Almonds
- 1/4 cup Unsalted Sunflower Seeds
- 1/2 cup Raisins
- In a bowl put oats and milk.
- Microwave for 20 min at a power 2 (it prevents it from bubbling over and becoming like a rubber).
- Once done add natural vanilla flavor, flax seeds, chia seeds, cinnamon, allspice, blueberries, raspberries, cashes or almonds, raisins, and unsalted sunflower seeds.
I do not count calories at this point. I think it is important to know what you eat when you start out but after a while you will also start to listen to your body and it will tell you exactly what and when to eat. But in case you wonder, yes this will be high in calories but since you will be eating it in the morning after your strength-cardio workout you will not gain any weight, instead it will keep you full and provide energy to take on a day and will feed your muscles. Enjoy!
FYI: Of course you can substitute the nuts and berry selection for the nuts and fruit that you like. As long as they are not sweetened or salted. For a chocolaty flavor and a bit more protein add a scoop of chocolate egg protein.
